Warm Sunny Days

With the hot weather the bird activity has been quiet. There are still a couple of Chiffchaffs singing and Song Thrushes occasionally pipe up, but other than that not  much bird song.
However, the weather has been excellent for insects of all kinds. Butterflies are abundant with many Gatekeepers, Small Tortoiseshells, and Whites. Large Skippers have mainly gone now, and Small Skippers are reduced in number. Peacocks are now on the wing again in small numbers. Dragonflies and Damselflies have been very busy laying eggs in the scrape. Common Darter. Emperor, Broad-bodied Chaser Dragonflies and Common Blue Damselflies have all laid eggs.
In the evening a few Pipistrelle  bats have been patrolling the south west corner of the Meadows. There could well be other bats too.
