Winter Thrushes

There were good numbers of birds on the meadows this morning, including about 20 redwings and 20 fieldfares which have arrived recently from the continent with help from the easterly winds. There were also  more blackbirds and song thrushes than usual, so like the redwings and fieldfares some of them may also be migrants from Scandinavia or Russia. I also found at least two reed buntings, two jays, and heard nuthatches.
The hawthorn bushes in the central hedge and on the boundary with the railway line are loaded with berries at the moment, making them very attractive to all the thrush species.

As I don't have photo's of many birds that I see on the meadows I have highlighted some of their names in colour and you can click on these names to link to the RSPB's website and see a full description of the bird, including video and sound.
