Although its not been the best of summers so far we don't seem to have had all that much rain. The pond on the Meadows was completely dried up on Saturday. There was just a damp patch of mud with lots of dying tadpoles. Its a great shame as last year was amazing for the number and variety of damselflies and dragonflies in and around the pond. Seems strange that the pond did not dry up until the end of August last year even though it was a much better summer. The problem is that it is too shallow and a couple of very hot days like the ones we had a couple of weeks ago will evaporate most of the water very quickly. It really needs deepening in the middle so as to retain some water in hot spells.

There were no dragonflies on Saturday but more butterflies are appearing. There were a few Ringlets and many Meadow Browns together with the first Narrow-boarded 5 Spot Burnett moths.
