The weather so far this summer has not been great, but at least the pond is unlikely to dry up as it did last year. Most of the common birds seem to be doing OK, with plenty of young fledglings around. There are a couple of male Chiffchaffs still singing and they are probably into their second brood by now.
I only found two butterflies yesterday but they were Ringlets, which used to be fairly uncommon around here, but now seem to be more numerous.
Around the pond I found one Blue-tailed Damselfly, one Azure Damselfly and two Emerald Damselflies, the first of the season.

Nice to hear about the butterflies I haven't seen any in my garden this year.
Hi Ellen,
It is generally a poor year for most kinds of insects because the weather has been so cold and wet. However, some butterflies seem to be doing reasonably well. At Whitfield Valley Nature Reserve yesterday I saw loads of Ringlets, Meadow Browns and Small Heaths. They are all grass loving butterflies and the one thing that has done well this year is grass!!!
