Even more Small Skippers
A very warm and sunny Saturday morning. I saw at least 50 Small Skippers in a relatively small area. This means that on the whole of the Meadows there must have been at least several hundred of these lovely small butterflies on the wing. They are common wherever Yorkshire Fog (a grass) grows. A young Blackcap and a young Chiffchaff were feeding in the bushes near the scrape, and an immature Nuthatch was calling from the large oak tree. Meadow Brown butterflies were also numerous this morning along with a stunning looking Small Tortoiseshell and both Small and Large Whites.
