Black Darter
I had a look around yesterday afternoon as it was quite warm and sunny. Birds were very scarce with only Wood Pigeon seen. The only butterfly was a Speckled Wood along the new path at the south end. Surprisingly there were quite a lot of dragonflies. At least 6 Common Darters, and some were egg laying. Also a Brown Hawker and a probable Common Hawker, although this could possibly have been a Southern Hawker if I had been able to get a closer view. There were also several Emerald Damselflies, but best of all was a new dragonfly for me on this site, a Black Darter. This takes the total species of dragonflies seen on the meadows to 9. Not bad in such a small pond.
