This week has been really beautiful, lots of sunshine and warm afternoons. On the meadows a few Speckled Wood and Red Admiral butterflies were around, as was the Black Darter dragonfly.
In the central hedge the birds were making the most of a bumper crop of berries and insects. A small flock of Long-tailed Tits were the most obvious along with several Goldfinches. It was nice to see a Willow Warbler stopping off to feed on the meadows on its return migration to Africa.
The new fence is now being installed around the school area. Its a pity that we have lost a good patch of thistles that are great for butterflies and moths, but at least they have put the fence back against the wood, and not encroached on part of the meadows as looked likely when they strimmed the grass in preparation.
